Travel to Lorne

How to get there

Lorne is 140 kilometres south of Melbourne, approximately a 2-hour drive. Travel by car via the Great Ocean Road. Alternatively, there will be a Coach Service arranged to depart from Melbourne for an additional fee. Only those who have booked the transport provided on their WIRMS 2013 Registration Form will be provided with transfers.

Coach Transfer Service

A coach service will depart from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station to the Mantra Erskine Beach Resort in Lorne on the afternoon of Sunday 10 November 2013. There will be a return service operating on the morning of Thursday 14 November from Lorne to the Australian Synchrotron for a tour after the completion of Workshop. Following the tour of the Synchrotron delegates will be returned to Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station in the afternoon at approximately 5pm . A $75 Return Early Bird fee will be charged for this service.

For those delegate attending the OPUS 7 workshop there will be an earlier coach to Lorne to arrive in time for the conference.

Travel

Melbourne Tullamarine airport is located approximately 143 km from Mantra Lorne, or less than an hour's drive from Avalon Airport. Should you not utilise the coach transfers you can access Lorne via car hire.

Public Transport

Should you wish to make your own way to Lorne there is a public transport service comprising of a Train and Coach which you can utilise. Monday to Friday this service runs four times daily and on Saturday and Sunday this service runs twice daily. Full information can be found on the V/Line website.

Melbourne Airport to Southern Cross Station

A shuttle bus service runs from Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport to Southern Cross Station approximately every 10 minutes. For full details please see here.

Alternative travel

For WIRMS attendees travelling by car and wishing to maintain the water theme from previous WIRMS conferences you may want to consider taking a detour through Mornington Peninsula and catching the Queenscliff Sorrento Car Ferry Service.
